God’s blessing and a big Cumberland welcome to all who visit this website!
Welcoming Cumberland Presbyterians represents a grassroots movement of Cumberland Presbyterians who wish to see the full participation of all people in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church regardless of race, gender, ability or sexual orientation. We envision a church where people can bring their full selves. Where each person is valued and supported so that the expansive love of Christ is more fully known.
We believe that God is at work now showing us that the Good News is larger and more grace-filled than we have imagined. Just as Phillip answered God’s call to share the good news with the Ethiopian eunuch, we share the good news with those of all sexual orientations and gender expressions. We say “yes” to whosoever God calls and work for full equality in membership, sacraments, ordination, and marriage for God’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender children.
We join with the Apostle Paul in affirming that no part of the body can say to another, “I have no need of you.” We extend Christ’s grace and welcome to all and receive the gifts God is offering the Church through them. To those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender, we say,”The body of Christ needs you. God loves you and we love you. We welcome you.”
The Cumberland Presbyterian Church is big enough for all of us.
