Hopefully after this book many LGBT people feel more drawn to live their faith in the various Christian churches, hopefully many will come, some for the first time, others on a return trip. May the Christian Churches also broaden their hearts to recognize that “LGBT people have gifts and qualities to offer to the Christian community.”

My own personal opinion: This is a great book, a divider. It has been written mainly by theologians, philosophers… so one “downside: it’s rather academic for the common layperson. But these types of work are absolutely needed as well! The other downside for me is that, in the section of the book devoted to “the secular disciplines”, apart from philosophers, anthropologists, etc., you have a psychoanalist!, with an article entitled “Homosexuality, from
Pathology to Sexual Diversity”, who does not discard, and even cites Joseph Nicolosi… ugh! There is no mention of the most recent findings made by biology. The article I understand that this book has been promoted by a group of theologians and philosophers, who possibly disregard biology a bit; or they’ve possibly tried to find psychologists within the Catholic or Christian environment. The book is very good, though. I’m still reading it. I still have to read the Tradition section and the Human Experience section, which promises to be very good: “Accompanying people… testimonies and experiencies… pastoral… an approximationi to groups, associations and Christian communities with sexual and gender diversity…”.

The different sections of this book are:

1) Interpreting the Bible (the book is mainly written by R. Catholic authors, though in this section a couple of Protestant writers also have their articles).
2) Interpreting the Teachings of the Church. Traditions, Magisterium and Theologies.
3) Interpreting the Secular Disciplines
4) Interpreting Human Experience.

These are ten personal stories whose reading can move the reader as well as allow recognition in them, at least in a part of themselves. Fear of rejection might appear, the fear of looking at certain aspects of sexuality, the resistance to admit and accept the impulses and desires of affectivity. A chronicle of the evil suffered, but, above all, stories of LGTBI faith and love.

This book by James Alison is much more than an attempt to construct a Catholic theology from a gay perspective. Through a deep and original (re) reading of the Scriptures, what the author proposes is a reflection on the mechanisms that lead to the exclusion and persecution of the other within the Catholic Church and society in general. The response of Alison, who has himself been persecuted and excluded due to his status as a Catholic priest and openly homosexual, is neither an attack on religious institutions, nor a victimizing allegation in favor of gay identity. On the contrary, Alison’s response is to look into the Catholic tradition for a way to overcome anger and learn to live fraternally and without resentment, that is, without refuting violence with more violence. Ultimately, what Alison suggests is that in the teachings of Jesus is the essential message: it is possible to fight against injustice from fraternity.

Este libro de James Alison es mucho más que un intento de construir una teología católica desde una perspectiva gay. A través de una (re)lectura profunda y original de las Escrituras, lo que el autor propone es una reflexión sobre los mecanismos que llevan a la exclusión y a la persecución del otro dentro de la Iglesia católica y de la sociedad en general. La respuesta de Alison, quien ha sido él mismo perseguido y excluido debido a su condición de sacerdote católico y abiertamente homosexual, no es ni un ataque a las instituciones religiosas, ni un alegato victimista a favor de la identidad gay. Por el contrario, la respuesta de Alison es buscar en la tradición católica la manera de superar la rabia y aprender a vivir fraternalmente y sin resentimiento, esto es, sin rebatir la violencia con más violencia. En definitiva, lo que Alison sugiere es que en las enseñanzas de Jesús se encuentra el mensaje esencial: es posible luchar contra la injusticia desde la fraternidad.

Does the Bible speak of homosexuality? This is how Dr. Renato Lings asks himself, questioning with this book the traditional way of interpreting biblical writings. In fact, our whole vision of the subject depends on the translations we have on hand. To date, no one has systematically reviewed the methodologies used by the translators of those versions of the Bible that are currently circulating in the Hispanic world. This is regrettable due to a long ecclesiastical tradition laden with misogynistic and anti-homosexual criteria. This book shows that the problem does not originate in the Old Testament but begins in the early Church to gain prominence in patristic theology. 

Given the great relevance of the subject, it is about time that a literary and linguistic analysis be applied to the most cited biblical texts in relation to the subject of homoeroticism. This work documents that, in several cases of great importance, the translators were wrong and continue to be wrong. The Bible does not condemn intimate relationships between two people of the same sex, but rather denounces serious problems of a social, religious and political nature.

The works that make up this book are the result of more than a year of study and reflection carried out by various congregations of the Spanish Evangelical Church (Iglesia Evangélica Española, hereinafter IEE), belonging to the presbyteries of Catalonia, Madrid, Levante and Andalusia; as well as the annual meeting of the pastors of the IEE (hereinafter Pastoral) held at the Mamré house in Jaca (Huesca) in May 2015. These studies have been exposed, both in the churches and in the Pastoral, by Juan Sánchez Núñez, professor of Theological Ethics at the SEUT Faculty; and as the final person in charge of them, I believe that I must state that they include the contributions and suggestions that were carried out in the dialogues after their presentation. This work, which I have done with so much pleasure, has its origin in a commission that I received from the Permanent Commission of the IEE, which shortly after the 2013 Synod of the
IEE invited me to deepen my knowledge of the theological, biblical and ethics on which to be able to establish an ecclesial and pastoral position with respect to homosexual persons. This position is found in the first document that you will find in this book; It is the Declaration of Mamré, and it owes its name to the place where it was made, the Casa Mamré de Jaca (Huesca). It was precisely in the meeting corresponding to May 2015, where the pastors present there, after two days of intense study work and spiritual discernment, proceeded to write it; being presented for ecclesial approval at the next IEE Synod that was held in October 2015 in Madrid.

Los trabajos que componen el presente libro son el resultado de más de un año de estudio y reflexión realizado por diversas iglesias de la Iglesia Evangélica Española (en adelante IEE), pertenecientes a los presbiterios de Cataluña, Madrid, Levante y Andalucía; así como de la reunión anual de los pastores de la IEE (en adelante Pastoral) celebrada en la casa Mamré de Jaca (Huesca) en mayo de 2015. Apart from about 18 or 20 complete books, ha, ha… mainly in English, I also read this one like 4 years ago. It was indeed, one of the books God used to affirm myself. It summarizes the main biological studies made on homosexuality in the last 30 years or so, until it was published. It uses a professional language, but at the same time it is written for a wide public, so it is very readable. I highly recommend it. I have even contacted the author, a Spanish geneticist, and we have chatted on several occasions. He also has a series of videos on YouTube about summarizing the biology of homosexuality.

Faced with the common assumption that gender identity is exclusively a social construct, we present here the existing evidence that demonstrates the influence of biological factors. Likewise, it is shown that there is a differentiation between the genders in psychological characters. It concludes with a reflection on the sociopolitical implications of the biological fact.

Frente a la suposición corriente que establece que la identidad de género es exclusivamente un constructo social, se presenta la evidencia existente que
